Verbos en Inglés

Present Perfect Continuous (duración)

B1 - Intermedio · Unidad 1: Aspecto y contraste temporal

have/has been + V-ing for + periodo (for 2 hours) since + punto (since 2019) It’s been raining (y quizá sigue) Simple: resultado · Continuous: actividad/duración No usar con always, often para hábitos normales (mejor Present Simple)

Idea clave:
• Muy común con for/since y verbos de actividad: study, work, wait, rain, play…

2) Forma básica

TipoEstructuraEjemplo
Afirmativa I/you/we/they have been + V-ing
He/she/it has been + V-ing
I have been studying English for three years.
She has been working all day.
Negativa I/you/we/they haven’t been + V-ing
He/she/it hasn’t been + V-ing
We haven’t been sleeping well lately.
He hasn’t been feeling very well.
Pregunta Have I/you/we/they been + V-ing…?
Has he/she/it been + V-ing…?
Have you been studying for the test?
Has she been working here long?

Piensa: “¿Desde cuándo?” “¿Cuánto tiempo?” → muy buena pista para usar have/has been + -ing.

  • I’ve been studying English for three years. (comencé antes y sigo ahora)
  • She has been working here since 2020.
  • They’ve been waiting for an hour.

  • You’re tired. You’ve been running. (estás cansado porque estabas corriendo)
  • It’s been raining. (el suelo está mojado)
  • Why is the table dirty? They’ve been cooking.

4) for / since y duración

PalabraUsoEjemplos
for Se usa con periodos de tiempo (cantidad) for two hours, for a long time, for three days, for six months, for years…
I’ve been reading for two hours.
since Se usa con puntos en el tiempo (inicio) since Monday, since 2019, since last week, since I was a child…
She has been living here since 2019.

Pregunta mental: “¿Cuánto tiempo?” → for. “¿Desde cuándo?” → since.

5) Present Perfect Simple vs Present Perfect Continuous

Present Perfect SimplePresent Perfect ContinuousComentario
I’ve read this book. I’ve been reading this book. Simple → resultado (lo he leído, quizá lo terminé).
Continuous → actividad (estoy en proceso, quizá no terminé).
She has written three e-mails. She has been writing e-mails all morning.
We’ve cleaned the house. We’ve been cleaning the house. Simple → resultado: la casa está limpia.
Continuous → actividad; quizá todavía no terminamos.

¿Te interesa el número de veces / resultado? → Simple.

  • know, like, love, hate, believe, understand, want, need, remember…

✅ I’ve known her for years.
❌ I’ve been knowing her for years. (no natural)

✅ We’ve loved this band since 2010.
❌ We’ve been loving this band since 2010. (normalmente no)

Verbos “mentales/emocionales” suelen ir con Present Perfect Simple: I’ve wanted… I’ve liked… I’ve known…

7) Errores comunes

*I’ve been knowing him for a long time.* I’ve known him for a long time. know es verbo de estado → usa Simple.
*How long are you studying English?* How long have you been studying English?
*I’ve been finished my homework.* I’ve finished my homework. finish → resultado completo; usa Present Perfect Simple.
