Idioms de registro formal (on the cusp of, in light of…)

En C1, los idioms de registro formal dan a tus essays, informes y presentaciones un tono más profesional. Son expresiones fijas que funcionan como bloques de significado y no deben traducirse palabra por palabra.

1) Mapa rápido de idioms formales

on the cusp of = a punto de / al borde de in light of = a la luz de in view of = teniendo en cuenta in the long run = a la larga on balance = en conjunto / en balance by and large = en general for the most part = en su mayor parte in the wake of = a raíz de

Registro: la mayoría son neutro-formal. Funcionan muy bien en:
• introducciones y conclusiones de essays
• informes, presentaciones, artículos de opinión

Piensa en ellos como marcadores discursivos de alto nivel: te permiten introducir contexto, matizar y evaluar sin sonar coloquial.

Aprende cada idiom con un ejemplo típico y su “posición” normal en la frase (inicio, medio, seguido de coma, etc.).

4) Contrastes y errores frecuentes

Uso dudosoVersión naturalPor qué
*We are in the cusp of a change.* We are on the cusp of a change. La preposición es on, no in.
*In light the recent events…* In light of the recent events… Siempre in light of + noun.
*In the long run, in balance it is positive.* In the long run, it is positive. On balance, the benefits outweigh the costs. Mezcla incorrecta; on balance va mejor al inicio de una frase separada.
*By and large people think the same always.* By and large, people share similar views. El idiom ya implica “en general”; evita redundancias como “always”.
*In the wake of of the crisis…* In the wake of the crisis… Evita el doble of of.

Revisa siempre la preposición exacta: son expresiones fijas. Un pequeño error (“in” vs “on”) puede sonar poco natural en nivel C1.
