4) Contrastes y errores frecuentes

Incorrecto / dudosoVersión naturalComentario
*The crisis brought a change about in society.* The crisis brought about a change in society. El objeto va justo después de bring about, no intercalado.
*We zeroed on the main problem.* We zeroed in on the main problem. Falta la partícula in: zero in on.
*The product was phased slowly out.* The product was phased out slowly. Adverbio mejor después del phrasal completo.
*We iron the problems out tomorrow.* (demasiado literal) We’ll iron out the problems tomorrow. Usa iron out como unidad; no separes por costumbre de “iron the shirt”.
*Everyone weighed in the topic.* Everyone weighed in on the topic. Siempre weigh in on un tema.
*The project fizzled.* (sin partícula) The project fizzled out. Se usa casi siempre con out.
*I need to mull this idea.* (falta partícula) I need to mull this idea over. Patrón completo: mull (something) over.

Si dudas sobre la partícula, repite mentalmente el chunk completo: zero in on, weigh in on, mull it over.
