Revisión mixta de condicionales (contrastes y matices)

B2 - Intermedio Alto · Unidad 3: Reported y condicionales

Zero: If + Present, Present First: If + Present, will + base Second: If + Past, would + base Third: If + Past Perfect, would have + V3 general · futuro real · irreal presente · irreal pasado

Zero: If you heat water to 100°C, it boils. (siempre verdad)
First: If it rains, we’ll stay at home. (posible futuro)
Second: If I had more time, I would learn Chinese. (irreal ahora)
Third: If I had studied, I would have passed.

2) Tabla-resumen: forma, tiempo y uso

Tipo Estructura Tiempo Uso principal Ejemplo
Zero If + Present, Present Presente Hechos generales, rutinas, verdades If you mix red and blue, you get purple.
(siempre ocurre así)
First If + Present, will + base Presente → Futuro Situaciones reales/posibles If I have time later, I’ll call you.
(posible plan)
Second If + Past, would + base Presente irreal Hipótesis / fantasías / consejos If I were rich, I would travel the world.
(pero no soy rico)
Third If + Past Perfect, would have + V3 Pasado irreal Arrepentimiento / crítica / “ya no se puede cambiar” If we had left earlier, we would have caught the bus.

A) “Lluvia y planes”

Zero:
If it rains, the streets get flooded.
➜ Hecho general (suele pasar siempre que llueve).

First:
If it rains this afternoon, we’ll stay at home.

Second:
If it rained more in this region, we would have more water.

Third:
If it had rained yesterday, we would have stayed at home.

B) “Dinero y viajes”

First: If I get a bonus, I’ll travel to Japan.
➜ Posible futuro (depende del bonus).

Second: If I had more money, I would travel more.

Third: If I had saved more money, I would have travelled more last year.

    → If + Present, Present
If I drink coffee at night, I can’t sleep.
    → If + Present, will + base
If I finish early, I’ll go to the gym.
    → If + Past, would + base
If I were you, I would change jobs.
    → If + Past Perfect, would have + V3
If we had left earlier, we would have arrived on time.

Atajo mental:
• Palabras como always, usually, when → Zero.
• Palabras como tonight, tomorrow, later → First (normalmente).
• Palabras como now, these days, in my life + fantasía → Second.
• Palabras como yesterday, last year, in 2010 + arrepentimiento → Third.

5) Errores típicos al mezclar condicionales

IncorrectoCorrectoTipo / problema
*If it will rain, we’ll stay at home.* If it rains, we’ll stay at home. First: en la parte de if no se usa will.
*If I would have more time, I would travel more.* If I had more time, I would travel more.
*If I had study more, I would have passed.* If I had studied more, I would have passed. Third: Past Perfect → had + V3, no forma base.
*If I know the answer, I would tell you.* If I knew the answer, I would tell you. (Second)
If I know the answer, I’ll tell you. (First)
No mezcles “presente real” con “would” irreal.
*If you would tell me, I’ll help you.* If you tell me, I’ll help you. (First)
If you told me, I would help you. (Second)
Evita “if + would” en estos condicionales básicos.

    a) If you heat ice, it melts.
    b) If it rains tomorrow, we’ll cancel the picnic.
    c) If I knew his number, I would call him.
    d) If they had invited me, I would have gone.
    e) If you don’t water plants, they die.
    a) If I ______ (get) the job, I ______ (move) to London. (futuro posible)
    b) If I ______ (be) you, I ______ (not/accept) that offer. (consejo irreal)
    c) If they ______ (study) more, they ______ (pass) the exam. (pasado irreal)
    d) If you ______ (press) this button, the machine ______ (start). (hecho general)
    e) If she ______ (not/forget) her keys, she ______ (not/be) late. (pasado irreal)
  3. Reescribe usando el condicional indicado entre paréntesis:
    a) I don’t have a car, so I take the bus. (Second → irreal presente)
    b) I usually drink coffee, and then I can’t sleep. (Zero)
    c) Maybe it will rain later, so I’ll stay at home. (First)
    d) I didn’t see the message, so I didn’t reply. (Third)
    e) When I eat too much sugar, I get a headache. (Zero)

    c) If she had told me, I would go to the party.
    d) If it rains, the streets will get flooded always.
    e) If they would have called me, I would have answered.
    • Zero: una verdad general sobre ti (If I…, I…).
    • First: un plan real para esta semana (If I…, I’ll…).
    • Second: una fantasía o deseo (If I…, I would…).
    • Third: un arrepentimiento del pasado (If I had…, I would have…).
