Verbos en Inglés

Causative: have/get something done

B2 - Intermedio Alto · Unidad 2: Modales y pasiva avanzada

Causative: have / get something done

I cut my hair. (yo lo hago)
I have my hair cut.

→ have/get something done.

2) Formas básicas con have (causative estándar)

Estructura principal:

sujeto + have (en el tiempo necesario) + objeto + V3

TiempoEjemploSignificado
Present Simple I have my hair cut every month.
Past Simple We had the car repaired yesterday. Ayer mandamos reparar el coche.
Present Perfect She has had her nails done.
Future (will) We will have the house painted next year.
Be going to I’m going to have my phone fixed. Voy a mandar arreglar mi celular.

TiempoEjemploComentario
Present Simple I get my hair cut every month. similar a have my hair cut, más informal.
Past Simple We got the car fixed last week. mandamos reparar el coche la semana pasada.
Future They’re going to get their house painted. van a mandar pintar la casa.
Modales You should get your eyes tested. consejo: deberías ir a que te revisen la vista.

En muchos casos puedes usar have o get. A nivel B2, have = más neutro, get = más informal.

4) Causative vs pasiva “normal”

TipoEstructuraEjemploSignificado
Pasiva normal The car was repaired. The car was repaired yesterday.
Causative We had the car repaired. We had the car repaired yesterday. Nosotros decidimos mandar reparar el coche.
Activo normal We repaired the car. We repaired the car ourselves.

5) Otras estructuras: have someone do / get someone to do

EstructuraEjemploUso
have + person + base verb I had the mechanic check the brakes. Pedí al mecánico que revisara los frenos.
get + person + to + base verb We got the technician to install the software. Logramos que el técnico instalara el software.

A nivel B2, la estructura más frecuente (y suficiente) es have/get + objeto + V3. Estas variantes son útiles para mayor variedad.

6) Errores comunes con have/get something done

IncorrectoCorrectoPor qué
*I have cut my hair every month.* (queriendo decir “me lo cortan”) I have my hair cut every month. Falta el objeto + V3 → estructura causative.
*We had repaired the car yesterday.* We had the car repaired yesterday. Orden correcto: have + objeto + V3.
*She got her nails do.* She got her nails done. El verbo principal va en V3 → done.
*I had my car to repair.* I had my car repaired. No usamos to + verb, sino directamente el participio.
*We got repaired our roof last year.* We got our roof repaired last year. El objeto va inmediatamente después de get.
