Normal: I didn’t enjoy the film in the end.
Fronting: In the end, I didn’t enjoy the film.
Fronting fuerte: The film, I didn’t really enjoy it.
Importante: el fronting NO siempre implica inversión como en Never have I…
This project (TEMA) needs more time (REMA).
What worries me (TEMA) is the cost (REMA).
In my country (TEMA), people usually eat late (REMA).
| Tipo | Ejemplos | Comentario |
|---|---|---|
| Tiempo | In the past, people travelled less. Nowadays, many people work from home. At first, I wasn’t sure about the idea. |
| Lugar | In big cities, public transport is essential. On the other side of the river, there is another district. | Útil al describir lugares, gráficos, escenas, etc. |
| Discurso / actitud | In my opinion, this policy is unfair. From a financial point of view, it doesn’t make sense. On the one hand, it saves money. On the other hand, it’s risky. | Marca tu posición o estructura tu argumento. |
Normal: I really enjoyed the course.
Fronting: The course, I really enjoyed (it).
Normal: I would never have expected such a reaction.
Fronting: Such a reaction I would never have expected.
| Función | Ejemplo | Uso típico |
|---|---|---|
| Contraste | My friends I trust, but my colleagues I don’t know very well. | Contrasta dos grupos (friends vs colleagues). |
| Enfasis en un complemento | More important than the money is the experience. (comparativo + be + sujeto) | Estilo más formal / escrito. |
| Resumen / introducción | This problem, we simply can’t ignore it.
5) Tematización con As for…, Regarding…, As far as X is concerned…
|---|---|---|
| As for + noun, | As for the budget, we’ll have to reduce costs. |
| Regarding + noun, | Regarding the new policy, most employees seem satisfied. | Muy útil en informes y emails formales. |
| As far as X is concerned, | As far as the environment is concerned, this proposal is positive. |
| When it comes to + noun, | When it comes to technology, younger people adapt quickly.
|---|---|---|
| *In the other hand, we could…* | La expresión es on the one hand / on the other hand. | On the other hand, we could try a different solution. |
| *As for, I think it’s a good idea.* | “As for” debe ir seguido de un nombre/tema. | As for the schedule, I think it’s a good idea. |
| Alterna frases con fronting y frases con orden neutro: In my country, people eat late. Many families have dinner after 9 p.m. |
| In the past, people travelled less. As for the design, I would simplify it. |
| Confundir fronting con inversión obligatoria | Muchos frontings NO llevan inversión. | In my opinion, this idea is great. (no: *In my opinion, is this idea great.*) |
7) Mini-práctica
